June News from Jaguar Association of Greater St. Louis

June News from Jaguar Association of Greater St. Louis

Dear Visitor

We have a number of events scheduled for the month of June. We are looking forward to seeing you at these outings outlined below.

Did you know?

Jaguar's roots go back to the 1930s as SS Cars, but the post-WWII era really launched the legend:

XK120 (1948–1954): One of the first big post-war stars. It was named for its 120 mph top speed (a huge deal at the time), with a sleek roadster body and the powerful XK inline-6 engine. Early ones even had aluminum bodies. It set records and helped put Jaguar on the map as a sports car maker.

XK140 (1954–1957) and XK150 (1957–1961): Evolutionary updates with more power, better brakes, and refinements. The XK140 added rack-and-pinion steering and optional disc brakes on later models—practical improvements while keeping the beautiful lines.

E-Type (1961–1974): Often called the most beautiful car ever made (Enzo Ferrari reportedly said something like that). The Series 1 is the purest, with that long hood, independent suspension, and V12 options later on. It's a design and engineering masterpiece that's still coveted today.

Other notables include the racing legends like the C-Type and D-Type (Le Mans winners), and elegant saloons like the Mark series or early XJ models.

We have many of these cars in our club and hope you get a chance to see them at one of our next events.

Member Spotlight

Frank Catanzaro

Frank is a native St.Louisan other than a few years out of state here and there for schooling.  Retired 4 years ago from a private practice as an ophthalmologist at Missouri Baptist Medical Center.  His wife is a clinical psychologist still working full time.  They have 1 daughter who just graduated from SLU Law School, and is working in a private law office.  Chesterfield Mo. has been home about 25 years.

British sports cars were all the rage during his high school days, so an MGB was his 1st vehicle purchase.  Thus began the "British Invasion" for him.  Jumping forward to the 1980s and 1990s, he was then able to afford an XJ6.  By then, he was a Jagstl member, rubbing shoulders with Art and Linda Buechler, Brad and Julie Bloomquist, Hoyt McPherson, Dave Norton, Joe Mizzerany (He never did buy a refrigerator from him) and yes, Jim and Lisa Hendrix. (Lisa did give him the referral to a diamond shop where he bought a wedding ring for his wife). He had  a V12 XJS convertible and 1950 Mk 5 which led to him joining the group.. His interest gradually expanded to other marques so he participated less in the Club.  Another XJ6 and a MK 9 popped up along the way.  Venturing into further British offerings has included an Austin Vanden Plas Princess (R hand drive), a Lotus Elan+2, and a succession of 3 Aston Martins.  Currently, he has a 1997 XJ6 and a1951 MK 5 which reside in his garage.  They've both been out at Club events.

Welcome back Frank! We look forward to seeing more of your cars.

Club News

Jaguar enthusiasts have plenty to roar about this year. Jaguar has been named the Marque of the Year for the 2026 Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix (PVGP), with the International Jaguar Festival (IJF)—hosted by the Jaguar Clubs of North America—taking center stage July 16–19. Expect concours competitions, rallies, slaloms, car shows, and social events celebrating both classic and modern Jaguars in Pittsburgh’s scenic Schenley Park and beyond. This marks the fifth time Jaguar has received this honor, underscoring its deep ties to American vintage motorsport events.

Jaguar Classic remains active in preserving heritage with continuation models, restorations, and experiences that let collectors get behind the wheel of iconic machines. Local clubs like JAGSL continue strong with drives, concours, and cultural outings that keep the community thriving.

Jaguar World News: Jaguar Type 01 – The Bold Electric GT Ushers in a New Era

Jaguar is charging full speed into its all-electric future with the upcoming Type 01, a high-performance four-door grand tourer set to redefine the brand’s luxury positioning. Following the striking Type 00 concept unveiled in late 2024, the production model—now officially named Type 01—continues to generate excitement and debate among enthusiasts. - EVO

Recent prototype testing in challenging conditions, including ice in northern Sweden, has showcased the car’s advanced Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA) platform. Early drives highlight its tri-motor setup delivering around 1,000 bhp, with ambitious targets for range approaching 476 miles (WLTP). The sleek, low-slung GT is expected to start north of $130,000 when orders open, with first deliveries anticipated in early 2027. - Electrifying

Jaguar’s transformation emphasizes fearless design and uncompromising luxury, positioning the Type 01 as a direct rival to top-tier electric grand tourers. Prototypes have appeared at events like the 2026 Monaco Formula E, offering tantalizing glimpses of its eccentric styling. While the shift to pure EVs has been controversial—especially after pausing other model developments—the company remains committed to this high-end reinvention. - Autoexpress

For Jaguar clubs and owners across the U.S., this marks an exciting chapter. The Type 01 promises to blend heritage-inspired performance with cutting-edge electrification. Stay tuned for the full reveal later in 2026—expect it to turn heads on roads and at events nationwide.
